Anne Campbell was first elected as San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014. As County Superintendent, one of her primary responsibilities is ensuring the financial and academic stability of our county¹s 23 school districts which serve nearly 94,000 students. Prior to her role as County Superintendent, Ms. Campbell served as Superintendent of the Portola Valley School District and of the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District. She has also served as a middle school   principal, counselor, and teacher.

Superintendent Campbell¹s priorities include closing the Achievement Gap, expanding access to quality early care and education, and creating 21st century schools for 21st century students. Initiatives currently underway to achieve these priorities include support of local districts as they implement the Common Core and Smarter Balanced Assessment; implementation of the Big Lift, a county-wide collaborative focused on increasing third grade reading proficiency through access to quality preschool; and incubation of the iZone, a public-private partnership designed to assist districts transition to 21st century learning environments, including ensuring students and teachers have the technology they need to personalize instruction to address individual student needs.
